Weinberg Dean Sarah Mangelsdorf Receives Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Minnesota

Sarah Mangelsdorf, dean of the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, has been honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award from the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota.

Mangelsdorf is among 22 to receive this year’s award. The recipients are “community builders and leaders who have made a positive difference in the lives of children, youth, families, schools, and organizations, and whose achievements bring honor to the college,” a university spokesperson said.

The honor recognizes Mangelsdorf’s “significant research” on the social and emotional development in infants and young children, as well as her “distinguished career” as an educator and administrative leader at Northwestern University, the University of Michigan and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she served as dean of the Liberal Arts and Sciences from 2004 to 2008.

Mangelsdorf earned her doctorate in child psychology from the University of Minnesota in 1988. Her scholarship focuses on social and emotional development in infancy and early childhood, and she is the author of numerous articles in developmental psychology. Back to top
