Staff Spotlight: Greg Jue

In each issue of the newsletter, you’ll meet a member of the Weinberg College staff. We hope you enjoy getting to know colleagues from around the Northwestern campus!

Staff member name: Greg Jue

Department: Department of Mathematics

Title: Business administrator

How long have you been working at Northwestern and in which departments or programs?  I started as the program assistant in Asian American studies in 2006. Besides the math department, I have also worked in the classics department and in the Office of the Dean as a research administrator.

Do you have a special interest/talent/hobby?  I have many interests, but I wouldn’t call any of them “talents.” In college, my roommates and I won a talent show for a folk-singing group that we formed. And I used to play a lot of golf in my younger days. I love to dance salsa! When I get the time, I’d like to learn how to fly-fish and research my family’s history.

How did you get started? I started playing guitar during the folk-singing craze of the 1960s. My roommates and I got kicked out of one apartment in Berkeley because we kept the neighbors up all night with our singing.

How do you devote time to this interest?  I don’t anymore. But I recently bought a ukulele to try to get my fingering technique back.

What are your dreams and aspirations? Tough question. To lead a productive life in concert with others around me.

Favorite Chicago and/or Evanston restaurant, location, activity?  I really like Prairie Joe’s on Central. It’s laid back and the people are friendly. I even have one of the owner’s paintings hanging in my living room.

What is your expertise as it pertains to your job at Northwestern?   Research administration, visas, payroll and financials.

If you have $5 and you’re at Walgreen’s, what do you buy?  Lubriderm (I have dry skin and like to go swimming, so I need a lot of that stuff).

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go? Florence, Italy
