Cross-Listed Courses

Many departments and programs in Weinberg College offer courses of special interest to students majoring or minoring in other areas. For example, art history, English, history, political science, and religion all offer courses relevant for Asian studies. Courses with a biological focus are taught in biological sciences, but also in anthropology, gender studies, and psychology. Such courses may be formally cross-listed in two departments, with some students signing up through one department and some through another. More often, a course is officially offered within one department or program, but is relevant for students in others as well.

Sometimes (but not always!) such courses can count toward the other department's or program's major or minor. In fact, in many special interdisciplinary programs, nearly the entire curriculum is made up of cross-listed courses. Students should always consult with major or minor departments and programs for definitive course lists and for rules governing how courses from outside that department or program can count toward their requirements.
