Distribution Requirement Exceptions for Interschool-Transfer and Dual-Degree Students

Students who transfer to Weinberg College from another undergraduate school at Northwestern can sometimes count courses from the other school toward the Weinberg distribution requirements. The following exceptions apply specifically to interschool-transfer students and/or students in the dual-degree BA/BMusic program.

School of Education and Social Policy

Students who transfer from SESP to Weinberg and have completed SESP 210-Introduction to Statistics and Research Methodology can count it for one credit in Area II-Formal Studies.

McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science

Students who transfer to Weinberg from the McCormick School of Engineering can receive credit toward the distribution requirements for successful completion of courses in the Engineering Analysis sequence:

GEN ENG 205-1 1 unit in Area II-Formal Studies
GEN ENG 205-1 and -2 2 units in Area II-Formal Studies
GEN ENG 205-1, -2, and -3 1 unit in Area 1-Natural Sciences
2 units in Area II-Formal Studies
GEN ENG 205-1, -2, -3, and -4 same as above

Bienen School of Music

The following rules apply both to students who transfer to Weinberg College from the Bienen School and to students enrolled in the BA/BMusic dual bachelor’s degree program:

Area II:  Students can receive one distribution credit in Area II-Formal Studies for any three quarters from MUSIC-111-1,2,3 and 211-1,2,3. Completion of all six quarters fulfills both Area II requirements.

Area VI:  Students can receive one distribution credit in Area VI-Literature and Fine Arts for any of the following Music Cultures courses: MUSIC 213, 214, 215, and 216. Completion of any one of these courses fulfills one Area VI requirement, and completion of any two of these courses fulfills both Area VI requirements.
