Courses Newly Approved for Distribution Credit in February 2005
Courses newly approved for Distribution Credit in February 2005The Weinberg College faculty voted in May 2004 to allow 300-level courses to count toward distribution requirements. In consultation with departments, we have prepared a list of newly approved distribution requirement courses, effective spring quarter, 2005.
Below are some important points to keep in mind as we make the transition to the new distribution requirement system.
Prerequisites. Many approved distribution courses are advanced courses with one or more prerequisites. Prerequisites are listed in the Undergraduate Catalog and in course descriptions available through the Registrar’s webpage. Make sure you have the prerequisites for a course before you decide to enroll.
Interdisciplinary courses. Some interdisciplinary courses have been approved for inclusion in more than one distribution area. In addition, some courses that previously counted in only one area now count in more than one. If you take such a course, you can choose in which eligible area to count it. However, your second distribution course in that selected area cannot be another interdisciplinary course. For example, if you elect to count CLASSICS 210-Early Western Civilization in Area IV, then your second Area IV distribution course must be selected from courses that count only toward Area IV.
Courses you have already completed. All courses newly approved for distribution credit this year count as of spring quarter, 2005. If a course you took in the past is now on the approved list, and you would like to count it toward your distribution requirements, please complete the Petition for Retroactive Counting of Distribution Courses and submit it to the Weinberg College Office of Academic Advising, 1908 Sheridan Road.
New 200-level distribution courses. Some departments also proposed additional 200-level courses for the distribution lists. If a 200-level course you took in the past is now on the approved list, and you would like to count it toward your distribution requirements, please complete the Petition for Retroactive Counting of Distribution Courses and submit it to the Weinberg College Office of Academic Advising, 1908 Sheridan Road.
Courses not on these lists. Many Weinberg College courses are not on these new lists. There are two primary reasons for this:
- The course already counted for distribution credit; lists of courses previously approved for distribution credit are also available online.
- The course was not proposed for distribution credit by the department or program in which it is offered.
