Rules and Policies for Transfer Students

Most Weinberg College students enter the College as freshmen. Some transfer to Weinberg College from other schools within Northwestern through an interschool transfer. In addition, each year a number of students transfer to Northwestern from other colleges or universities and enroll in Weinberg College.

If you transfer to Northwestern, you will receive an evaluation of your transfer credits from the Registrar's Office. The summary shows:

• the total number of credits accepted from your former school,
  
  
• the corresponding Northwestern course numbers, and
  
  
• your progress toward meeting the Undergraduate Residence Requirement.

If you receive credit for a course that closely approximates one taught at Northwestern, then the relevant course number will be indicated on your credit evaluation. If you receive credit for a course that does not closely match any Northwestern course, then just the department name and the course level (100, 200, or 300) will be indicated.

If you think any of your credits were evaluated incorrectly, then you should discuss this with your College Adviser or with the Assistant Dean for Academic Standing.

Several special rules apply to students who transfer to Northwestern's Weinberg College from other institutions. Some of these are listed below. To discuss your own personal situation and the relevant rules that apply, you should meet with a College Adviser.

Special rules for transfer students:

• If you received transfer credit for a specific Northwestern course, then you may not subsequently retake that course for credit.

• You must take at least 23 courses at Northwestern, regardless of how many transfer credits you have earned.

• You must take at least four 300-level courses in your major at Northwestern. (If your major requires fewer than four 300-level courses, then all required 300-level courses must be completed at Northwestern.)

• Regardless of how many transfer credits you have earned, you must be enrolled at Northwestern for a minimum of six full-time quarters. The Northwestern Registrar's Office will establish the exact number of quarters needed to fulfill your Undergraduate Residence Requirement.

• After you enroll at Northwestern, you can receive credit for a maximum of four additional courses taken at other universities. You can use this credit to fulfill your degree requirements, but it may not count toward the Undergraduate Residence Requirement.
