Weinberg Web Server Policy
Weinberg IT established a web server for Weinberg academic and administrative units to publish information about the College to the Northwestern community and the general public. All files on this server are required to follow the Weinberg Web Standards.
Appropriate Uses
Sensitive Data
Except in selected instances where authenticated control has been implemented, all materials posted to the web server are publicly accessible. Private, confidential, and sensitive information should never be uploaded to the web server. Files in violation of this policy will be deleted immediately without warning.
PC Storage or Back Ups
The Weinberg web server should not be used to share internal documents or back up files from other computers or drives. The Weinberg file server is the appropriate place for these materials.
Personal Information
Personal information about faculty, staff, and students in Weinberg should not be published on the web server. Weinberg IT offers faculty personal web space on a separate server.
Accounts and Access
Request accounts for users and departments from Weinberg Web Communicationsweb@wcas.northwestern.edu. Unless Weinberg Web Communications approves a shared account, passwords should never be shared.
Technical Support
Weinberg IT offers installation of Adobe Contribute, as well as basic training in its use, to all Weinberg units. Contact web@wcas.northwestern.edu for more information.
Adobe Contribute Tips
#1: To create a line break without a line space, hold the shift key as you tap the "Enter" key.
#2: Need to indent a single line, or one or more paragraphs, of text? Use the indent button (see image) NOT the space bar. Why? Because using the spacebar will result in a string of non-breaking spaces that could size differently on different browsers, resulting in a ragged left margin, or create awkward and unnatural sentence wrapping.
