KACE Computer Management System is Being Implemented

Weinberg faculty and staff,

As you may know, Weinberg IT is implementing a new computer management system, called KACE, to better support your computer and ensure it is consistently updated and protected from malicious software. We will use existing computer management tools to deploy the new client software on Wednesday, August 15. The installation will occur silently to avoid interrupting your work.

As an immediate benefit, your computer will automatically receive security updates for commonly used programs, including Java, Firefox, Adobe Flash, and Microsoft Office. These patches will be downloaded and applied weekly. You may be prompted by KACE to restart your computer after updates are applied. We anticipate this will reduce both our risk of virus/malware infection and the amount of time you may spend on updating software on your computer.

Please submit a support request (http://service.wcas.northwestern.edu) if you experience any computer performance issues after Wednesday, August 15, or have any questions regarding the above maintenance. We appreciate your understanding as we take these steps to ensure high quality operations.

Best regards,
Chris
