Windows XP End-of-Life

Dear Colleagues,

Microsoft recently announced that it will no longer provide software updates or support for the Windows XP operating system after April 8, 2014. As a result, computers using Windows XP will be at greatly increased risk of being compromised by viruses or other malicious software.

Most of Weinberg's computers have already been upgraded to Windows 7, which will continue to be supported by Microsoft until January 2020. Weinberg IT will provide several modes of support to assist with the transition of the remaining computers away from Windows XP:

Weinberg IT will follow up with faculty and staff members currently using Windows XP to provide more information about upgrades or replacements. Please submit a support request (weinberg-it@northwestern.edu or http://service.wcas.northwestern.edu) if you have a Northwestern-owned Windows XP computer in your home office so we can upgrade Windows or recommend a replacement.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work to ensure the security and quality of Weinberg College's network.

Best regards,
chris
