Getting Support
- Weinberg IT is your direct contact for computing and technology support. Please enter a service request for fast assistance.
Getting Connected
- NetIDs are required for all Northwestern faculty and staff to use the network and e-mail or to access proprietary applications. You will receive your NetID and information about how to activate it after Human Resources processes your hiring paperwork.
- Wireless access is available across Northwestern's campuses. Information on accessing the Northwestern wireless network is available at NUIT's web site.
- VPN is required to access certain Northwestern resources from off-campus. Your NetID enables access to the VPN.
- Email is provided centrally by NUIT. Details about this account, including webmail access, setup for smart phones, and junk mail control can be found on the Northwestern e-mail page.
Purchasing Hardware and Software
- Computer hardware branded only by Dell, Lenovo, or Apple is funded and supported by Weinberg.
- Standard computer software is pre-loaded by Weinberg IT for your convenience. All computers must include the Weinberg software image to be supported.
- Additional information is available concerning specialized research software for your department or lab.
Network Storage and Backup
- Once configured, CrashPlan PRO provides automatic backup of your files. Please note that some files such as music and video files are excluded. If your work includes normally excluded files, you can request an exception.
- Personal and group network storage is provided by Weinberg IT for sharing files with other people and computers, even from off campus.
Web Sites
- Adobe Contribute is the standard program for website management. Information on using Contribute is available on the Weinberg site.
- Lab or research group website space can be requested by submitting a service request ticket. A Weinberg IT representative will follow up with you to help you understand your options.

Research
- Vault is a file sharing service for research faculty, their students, and other collaborators. The storage system allows the account owner to manage permissions and access with no IT intervention required.
- Quest is a high performance computing cluster provided by NUIT to support large-scale research computing tasks.
- The Social Sciences Computing Cluster (SSCC) supports a variety of research software on the Linux platform for computation in the social sciences.
- The Sheridan Cluster offers a virtualized Windows desktop for light computing workloads in social sciences and humanities.

- Smart Classrooms are technology enhanced classrooms that are supported by NUIT. The list of Evanston classroom locations includes a user guide, equipment list, and supported software for each classroom.

Lync is available!
