Obtaining Matlab from Weinberg IT

Weinberg IT offers two types of Matlab licenses for university owned computers, a network based license, and a stand-alone license. The vendor names these license types "concurrent" and "group" respectively.

Networked license ("concurrent"): This is the preferred and most commonly used license type. It should be chosen for any computer that is directly connected to the campus network and is capable of having a static IP address. If your computer does not have a static IP address we can in most cases obtain one for you. This license is the most inexpensive and includes the most toolboxes. The cost for this type of license is $30/year. The license is good from September to September of the next year. A license is recommended for each anticipated simultaneous use of Matlab (e.g. If two people login to one computer at the same time to use Matlab, two licenses should be purchased).

Stand-alone license ("group"): This license does not require a network connection. It is best suited for a laptop when Matlab may need to be used off campus, or when using the wireless network. The price for a group license is higher and includes fewer toolboxes than the networked license. The cost for this type of license is $60/year. The license is good from September to September of the next year. A license is required for each computer where Matlab will be installed.

Student Total Academic Headcount license: Students needing Matlab licenses for their personal computers should purchase a Student TAH license. The Student TAH licenses are administered for the entire university by McCormick IT. To order a Student TAH license please see McCormick's student Matlab site.
