Disposition of Replaced Computers
- If the computer being replaced is fewer than 4 years old, it should be allocated to another person within the department.
- If the computer being replaced is more than 4 years old, and it has been deemed "supportable" by Weinberg IT staff, it can be used for graduate students, work-study students, or temporary staff within the department. In most cases repairs to such a computer will include re-imaging; thus, do not rely on such a computer to store important data. Use the Weinberg servers to store files, and be sure to do regular backups of e-mail. Every computer is subject to drive failure, older computers even more so.
- If a computer is no longer used in the department, it should be transferred to Weinberg IT to use for spare parts, temporary situations, and eventual recycling.
- No replaced computers are to become the personal property of faculty or staff.
