Computer Support Policies
Weinberg IT supports University-owned computers based on the following policies:
- New purchases must meet Weinberg IT standards. New purchases supported by Weinberg IT will be set up with the Weinberg IT software image.
- Existing Dell, Lenovo, and Apple computer hardware must meet the minimum hardware and operating system standards.
Minimum hardware standard
- Windows based computers: single processor 1.2 GHz
- Mac OS X based computers: dual-core Intel processor
- 2 GB of RAM
- 80 GB disk
- All computers must have an Ethernet port or an external Ethernet adapter
Operating system standard
- Windows 7 Enterprise (Windows XP Professional only for special equipment or software needs)
- Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 or 6
Installed software and configuration standard
- Antivirus: Symantec Endpoint Protection
- Computer management: Symantec Altiris
- Login service via NetID: Weinberg IT Active Directory
Faculty visiting from another institution will receive support for hardware owned by their home institution.
Computers purchased with personal funds (i.e., computers that are not university-owned) are not supported by Weinberg IT.
All standards will be reviewed at least twice per year.

Weinberg has moved to the NU Collaboration Services integrated email and calendar system for faculty and staff.

- Set up your vacation (out of office) message.
- Connect to email and calendar from your mobile device.
