Dual-career Assistance

VIEW THE MOST CURRENT INFORMATION ON THE WEINBERG COMMONS (NETID REQUIRED).

Weinberg College appreciates that for many scholars, joining our faculty is a family decision. The College Dean’s Office is committed to providing career advice and assistance to partners of new faculty to help them find appropriate employment in the Chicago area.

We offer services to faculty partners and spouses seeking employment both within and outside the University environment. We will consult with you as early as you are ready to discuss your interests and goals and to begin to make appropriate contacts. In addition, we are prepared to help you refine the presentation of your CV or other presentations in your job search.

Please be in touch with Beth Clifford Smith to begin the consultation. Even before contacting our office, you may wish to visit the Greater Chicago Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (GCHERC) which provides an extensive listing of jobs throughout the area. All staff openings and many faculty positions at Northwestern can be reached through Human Resources.

FAQs:

Who is eligible for dual career assistance?

You are eligible if your spouse or partner has received an offer of a tenure-line position or a position on the teaching track faculty that is expected to be ongoing. Spouses or partners of current faculty may also take advantage of our consultation.

What services do you offer?

Our approach will depend on your background and interests. Our goal is to help you make the contacts and build a network that will lead to a meaningful position at Northwestern or in the area. We offer specific services such as review of CVs, resumes and other materials and the identification of appropriate resources.

Will you guarantee me employment?

The College and University cannot guarantee employment on campus or off but we have been successful in helping many spouses find an attractive career path locally.

What opportunities are there outside Northwestern?

As the nation’s third-largest city, Chicago and its suburbs are an active hub of employment in many sectors including education, finance, health care, and nonprofit.

When should I contact you?

Because job searches take time, the sooner we begin working with you the better. You may be in touch with us if your partner or spouse has been invited for a campus interview, after he or she has received an offer, or after you arrive on campus.
